Instagram now allows editing of DMs within 15 minutes after sending, providing users with more control and flexibility in their messaging experience.

Always improving: Instagram users who regret sending poorly worded direct messages can now breathe a sigh of relief. Engineers at Meta Platforms Inc. have enabled a feature allowing users to edit their DMs within a 15-minute window after sending them. Users simply need to press and hold on the sent message to prompt a drop-down menu with an edit option, as stated in a blog post by Meta. Additionally, users can now pin up to three group or one-on-one chats to the top of their inbox.

Deeper details: In a recent update, Instagram users can now easily pin important chats by swiping left or tapping and holding on the chat to choose the pin option. Furthermore, Instagram users will have the option to activate read receipts, informing others that their message has been read. These changes were announced by Meta on the same day that users experienced outages on various online platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Threads. The disruptions were reported by users globally but were resolved within a few hours.

Looking ahead: Following the outage, Meta's spokesperson, Andy Stone, confirmed the technical issue that impacted user access to the services had been resolved. Despite the temporary disruption, Meta's shares were up by 1.5% at 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time the next day. Meta, with approximately 3.19 billion daily active users across its apps, experienced a larger disruption for Facebook compared to WhatsApp and Threads. The outage affected not only external users but also internal Meta employees who faced login issues, leading to speculation about potential layoffs.
